2/11/08 Structure Fire
220 South Main St

On Monday, February 11, the Manheim Fire Department was dispatched to a
residential fire, this time an apartment building in the 200 block of S. Main st in
Manheim Borough. Smoke could be seen from the fire station and a firefighter at a
nearby business advised it was a working fire. Deputy 2-6 (Rhodes) arrived on
scene with fire showing from the 2nd floor side C. Engine 2-6-2 arrived and tried to
make entry from an exterior stair on side C, while truck 2-6 split crew with 2 going
to the roof and a crew of 3 making entry on side A. Truck 2-6 roof crew began
vertical ventilation of the metal roof from ground ladders and were assisted by the
crew of Lititz truck 2-5 upon their arrival. The interior team from truck 2-6 began a
primary search, and while checking the 3rd floor for extension encountered heavy
fire in the walls and attic. A second handline was stretched via a 2nd floor window
to the attic stairwell for the truck crew, who opened up the walls and attacked the
fire from inside. The incident was upgraded to 2nd alarm, bringing additional mutual
aid to the scene.
2/25/08 Firefighter Norm Deck and department chaplain Dennis Ober hosted 8
visitors from the Manheim Central LEAP program. The kids were given a tour of the
station, including the museum, and were taught about fire safety. If your school or

2/24/08 The Rescue, Engine 2-6-1, and the squad responded to a vehicle accident
with entrapment on Mount Joy Road just outside of the Borough. Chief 2-6-2
(Olesen) arrived to find a head-on accident with 1 female trapped. Rescue crew
performed a door removal and the patient was extricated and placed into the care
of the EMS crew within 12 minutes. Crews were on scene for just under 2 hours
while State Police did their investigation.
2/20/2008 Engine 2-6-2 and Truck 2-6 were dispatched for a possible chimney fire
in the first block of South Linden Street. Crews arrived and found a fire in the wood
stove, with no extension into the house. Chimney was checked with a chain and
found to be clear. Units were in service approximately 1 hour. Chief 2-6-2 (Olesen)
had command.
