7/3 July started slow with the first call not coming in until the 3rd, but then it quickly caught up with 3 calls within 12 hours. The morning started with a reported apartment fire at Meadows East Apartments, with residents reporting the fire alarm sounding and smoke in the hallways. Penn Township Police arrived and advised Chief 2-6-3 (Ober) that the smoke was a result of fireworks in the stairwell, so the crews of Engine 2-6-2 and Truck 2-6 assisted with ventilation. Later in the afternoon, Rescue 2-6 was dispatched for spill control as a result of a non-injury tractor accident. Crews contained spilled fuel from an overturned farm tractor. That evening, the station was again dispatched for a residential fire, this time a dwelling fire on North Main Street. Crews found a small fire in an exterior porch that was quickly extinguished with a water can. |
7/8 In the afteroon of July 8th, firemen from Manheim, East Petersburg, and Penryn were dispatched to the 300 block of South Main Street in Penn Township for a reported building fire. Crews found a small fire in the ceiling and it was quickly extinguished. The ceiling had to be partially removed to determine the extent of fire damage due to the heavy insulation. Crews were in service for approx. 40 minutes. Also on the 8th, crews went to Daffodil Drive in Rapho Township to investigate an odor of burning, and to East Donegal Township for a tanker assist on a 2 alarm house fire. Another hot, 3 call day for the volunteers. |
7/12 Rescue 2-6 was dispatched in the morning of July 12 for a reported accident on Mount Joy Road in Rapho Township. Crews found a car sideways against a tree, with 1 patient needing medical care. The patient was removed from the vehicle and turned over to EMS, with the rescue and squad spending 1 hour on the scene. |
7/14 As part of our normal Monday night training program, on July 14th we hosted a water rescue awareness class at our station. A total of 29 personnel from Manheim, Lititz, Cornwall, and Mount Joy attended. About halfway through the class, crews were dispatched to Lititz Springs Park for a reported building fire that turned out to be very minor and the class was able to resume quickly. This class was a precursor to a water rescue operations class coming in September. Thanks to instructor Todd Stahl from Whitecap Rescue for a very informative class. We're looking forward to seeing you again in a couple of months. |
7/15 Just another false fire alarm? Crews were dispatched to South Cope Hill Drive for a residential fire alarm and just after dispatch Deputy 2-6 (Rhodes) was advised that calls were coming in from the neighbors that there was smoke coming from the house. Crews quickly arrived and extinguished a working garage fire. This time the system worked as designed and alerted the fire department several minutes before any fire could be seen from outside the house. This is a good example that fire alarms and sprinklers save lives. Also a reminder to our staff that even run of the mill every day calls can turn out to be more than expected. |
7/17 July 17th had crews responding to 2 separate accidents on Auction Road in Penn Township. The first involved a motorcycle that hit a pickup head on. The rider was up and walking around upon arrival. Later in the day, a 2 vehicle accident occured further down the road. Chief 2-6-3 (Ober) arrived to find 1 vehicle overturned and a patient laying in the roadway. Crews spent a total of 2 hours in service. |
7/19 Several members spent this morning at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center practicing their skills on the car fire simulator. Firefighters received good training on fire attack, and one driver trainee had plenty of pump time to put toward his engine driver qualification. Thanks to everyone that attended and to the staff of LCPSTC for running the simulator for us. |
