6/9/08 Starting with a small trash fire in the morning that was quickly put out, this was another 3 call day for the volunteers. That afternoon, Rescue 2-6 was dispatched to assist Penryn Fire Department with an overturned Tanker Truck on Lebanon Road. Crews arrived to find the truck had hit a pole, overturned, and was leaking a large quantity of milk. Crews spent 2 hours on scene and were released by command, with Penryn units remaining most of the evening. Later that night the members were out placing the new reflective markers on the fire hydrants when they were dispatched for an odor of gas outside in the area of West Stiegel Street, with nothing found. |

6/10/08 Seeing any odd lights around town lately? No, it's not aliens, it's our new hydrant markers. The old "stick" style markers have been starting to deteriorate over the years, so we decided to purchase a more efficient replacement. The new markers are plastic rings that fit over the side connections on the hydrant and reflect bright blue light back toward approaching headlights. This will help us to spot hydrants as we approach a fire. This is an example of a purchase made with the funds that we receive from the community during our annual fund drive. To those who responded to the letters and sent a donation back, thank you for your support. We will continue to install markers over the next few weeks, but if you see a hydrant that is not marked, or a marker that is need of repair, please contact us at 665-3661. Please do not handle the "stick" style markers, they have small fiberglass fibers that can rub off onto your hand and are extremely itchy. Call us and we'll take care of it. |

6/18 After a 4 call day on the 17th, we started off Wednesday with an accident at the Manheim Auto Auction involving a car and a tow truck. Chief 2-6-3 (Ober) and the crew from Rescue 2-6 assisted EMS with removing the patient from the car and quickly cleared the scene. Tuesday's calls included a fire alarm during the overnight storm, a truck assist to Mt. Joy on a reported house fire, and 2 vehicle accidents. One of the accidents involved a motorcyclist trapped under a car on Lancaster Road. The Patient was removed by lifting the car with the high pressure airbags from Rescue 2-6. |
