Tonight, while most people were watching the 11 o'clock news, the volunteers from
Manheim and several surrounding departments were dispatched to a working garage
fire in the 1st block of North Grant Street. Units arrived to find a 2 story wood frame
garage heavily involved in fire. Deputy 2-6 (Rhodes) responded from home and had
command of the incident. Units spent just over 3 hours in service. Thank you to
Mastersonville, Lititz, and Penryn fire departments, as well as Manheim Ambulance, for
assisting at the scene, and Fire Department Mount Joy who sent an engine to stand
by in our station during the fire.

Early this morning, volunteers from Manheim were dispatched to assist Penryn Fire
Department on a house fire on Lebanon Road in Penn Township. Engine 2-6-2 went
enroute with a crew of 5 and were the 2nd arriving unit. With fire rolling out of a
window on the rear corner of the building, engine 2-6-2 quickly vented the rest of the
window and made a knock on the fire while the crew of engine 2-8-2 were making
entry through a rear door. Engine 2-6-2 then proceeded up the stairs and made entry
to the 2nd floor via the partially burned deck, making a fast primary search while
venting windows and checking for extension. All occupants were confirmed out of the
house and crews exited the building. Tanker 2-6 set up water supply to engine 2-6-2
and the crews from truck 2-6 and rescue 2-6 assisted with throwing ladders and
ouside ventilation. Units spent a total of 2 hours in service.

This morning Rescue 2-6 was dispatched to North Esbenshade Road for a reported
overturned tractor trailer with possible entrapment. Witnesses saw a grain truck roll
into a field and did not see a driver get out. Chief 2-6 (Reif) arrived on scene and
confirmed that the driver was out, and only had minor injuries. Rescue 2-6 performed
fluid and traffic control, standing by until the arrival of State Police.

accident with entrapment near the IU13 on Fruitville Pike in Penn Township. Deputy
2-6 (Rhodes) arrived on scene to report a multiple vehicle accident, with everyone out
of the vehicles. Chief 2-6 (Reif) arrived shortly after and assumed command. Crews

May 12 was another busy day, with a total of 5 runs. It started early, just after 4 am
for a medical assist. Later, we assisted East Petersburg fire department on a reported
building fire on Graystone Road. Next were 2 back to back accidents for Rescue 2-6,
both on Lebanon Road in the area of Pinch Road, assisting Mastersonville fire
department. Finally the day ended with a report of audible alarm bells on Auburn Drive,
with no fire present. That makes 15 calls in the first 12 days of May.
We are proud to have an excellent relationship with the Lititz Fire department, and
Engine 2-6-1 was recently loaned to them while their engine was out of service for
mechanical work. After numerous threats to paint it white to match their fleet, it was
recently returned to service, thankfully intact (except for some very odd stickers on
the side). Thank you to Chief Oettel and his crew for taking good care of our
equipment, and especially for the handsome reward that came back with it. As usual,
whenever you need our assistance, we are here to help out.
