March 29, 2015

Shortly before 1500 hours, crews from Manheim, along with mutual aid companies were dispatched for a reported working barn fire at 707 Fairview Road in Rapho Township. A 2nd alarm was dispatched as units were still enroute. The column of smoke could easily been from Route 283 It was confirmed by fire officers arriving on the scene.

Due to the rural area of the fire a tanker shuttle was used to supply units on the fireground. The fire was declared under control at 1620 hours. One calf which was in the barn was rescued by the owner of the property before the arrival of the fire department. The fire was initially called in by the farm owner.

Mutual aid units from Station 70 (Rheems), and 20 (Manheim Township Fire & Rescue) stood by at our station on standby during the fire.

After leaving the barn fire, some mutual aid units were dispatched and responded to a reported dwelling fire in Mount Joy Township.
