On Monday, August 1st, Manheim Fire Department received an early Christmas present at our Monday night training. Mid Atlantic Fire and Air arrived with the department's new Scott Air-Pak NXG7 SCBA. The department purchased a total of 21 of these units along with spare cylinders to replace our aging Scott 2.2 SCBA's that has served us well over the years. Over the past 2 years, the department has been looking into replacing our SCBA with having different vender's come to the department to showcase their products. We decided on staying with Scott for multiple reasons with 1 of them being the fact the we have had Scott SCBA's for years. We were able to upgrade our current Scott masks for the new SCBA so we would not have to purchase all new SCBA masks for members. The new Scott Air-Pak NXG7 SCBA has all the new safety features with built in Pass Alarms along with Buddy breathing system, and the new Scott Pak Tracker built into them which aids in searching for a lost firefighter in a building. For more info on the new SCBA, please go to the following link: https://www.scottsafety.com/en/us/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?productdetail=Air-Pak+NxG7+SCBA. The final purchase price of the units was around $125,000. The department plans to have the new SCBA in service in the near future after some in house training. Anybody wishing to see the new SCBA may stop at the station or come to our Open House on August 20th.
