CO Alarm

December 29, 2015

Around 00:45 this morning, station 26 was dispatched to a Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm in Penn Township. Crews arrived to find the house evacuated and an active CO alarm caused by a coal stove. The CO detector alarmed the occupants and alerted them to the issue.

As the cold weather arrives this weekend, a reminder NFPA recommends having a CO detector on each floor. Carbon Monoxide can come from gas appliances, wood or coal fireplaces/stoves, gas motors and other sources as well. Without a CO detector, the outcome of this incident could have been much different.
